My Latest Novel

The Unlikely Detective and The Stolen Stamps Enigma
The The Unlikely Detective And The Stolen Stamps Enigma is my latest mystery novel reprising Matt Kelly.

Matt Kelly, a self-described kickboxer and professional detective, finds himself entangled in a complex and dangerous case in The Unlikely Detective And The Stolen Stamps Enigma. When Kellys good friend Tom Miller approaches him with a lucrative proposition involving the baffling mystery of missing valuable postage stamps, Kelly is drawn into a web of deception, greed, and hidden motives.

Set against the backdrop of Tokyo and Oshima Island, Kelly navigates a world filled with eccentric characters and uncovers a series of schemes and conspiracies. The central mystery revolves around the search for priceless postage stamps, and as Kelly digs deeper, he becomes entwined in a plot that challenges not only his physical prowess but also his wit and cunning.

As Kelly peels away the layers of deception, he must confront both external threats and his own moral compass to solve the puzzle and emerge from the shadows with the truth.

If you enjoyed The Unlikely Detective, The Unlikely Detective and The Black Dragon Society, and The Unlikely Detective and The Dark Society, you’re going to love my follow-up, The Unlikely Detective And The Stolen Stamps Enigma. It includes Tom Miller, along with a few new characters; a Stamp dealer who discovers that the postage stamps he has been buying for his client have disappeared and the client who turns out to to be a money launderer for the Sumiyoshi-kai crime gang. Kelly with Tom Millers insistence tries to solve this new enigma surrounding the missing stamps.

An anonymous reader says, Bryant juggles the complicated plot and large cast, imbuing his diverse characters with robust backstory and emotional motivation . . . Pure action seekers will gasp at the brutal violence and raw hand-to-hand combat. I should add that it has its tender scenes, too . . . : )

Enjoy when you have a chance, and thanks for all your support! Or as they say in Japan, Domo arigatō gozaimasu! (どうもありがとうございま す。)

About this Series and the Venue

I found that the challenges of recreating Japan, especially Tokyo, four decades ago werent as easy as I thought. But, I always felt that by having been there, I didn’t need a lot of onsite research for the books I write, even though I knew I had to do so only in those parts of the city that have changed with time. To supplement that research, I read more books about Tokyo and Japan, surfed the Internet, and had more conversations (interviews) with my long-time Japanese friends.

Tokyo, despite its vast size, manages to be a surprisingly livable metropolis. Unlike other major cities that loudly proclaim their cultural significance, Tokyo offers a subtler experience. It might initially appear as a practical, efficient, and spotless machine, but a deeper look reveals a city rich with hidden meanings and intricate values.

Joining countless others, I’ve immersed myself in the daily life of Tokyo, a metropolis vast even compared to some countries. It demands our respect and exploration. When I write about Tokyo or its people, it’s not just with observation and intellect, but with deep affection. My fingers fly across the keyboard, fueled by passion and enthusiasm. For Tokyo, only the best will do.

I hope you will have the opportunity to visit Tokyo and Japan and find it amazing.

My Next Novel

Here is a tidbit of my next novel.

A Tokyo psychiatrist is killed in a hit-and-run in front of his office. Suspicion quickly focuses on one of the doctor’s patients. A psychologist friend of Hisashi Kimura is called in to find out why. Then information emerges that links the slain shrink to a highly secret government mind-control project.

A young man, ideally suited for mind control, is programmed to assassinate the leading candidate of the Democratic Socialist Party, potentially paving the way for Japan's next Prime Minister.

But the assassin is programmed to kill anyone who threatens him or his organization ―even the doctor trying to find him.
